Aesthetic Theory – Coach and Advisor

Through my company Aesthetic Theory, I offer services as a Theory Coach and Aesthetic Advisor. In these roles, I help people get a new perspective on problems related to things in their professional, personal, and artistic lives and projects using cultural and social theory. These services are not therapy, but helpful in a different way.

Testimonials as Aesthetic Advisor

The feedback I received from Macon Holt was constructive and thorough. He very much succeeded in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere in which we could build both an enlightening and challenging discussion. As a scholar, he went straight to the core of my project and pointed me in the direction of future paths of research. As a writer, he was able not only to help me think about what I was writing about, but also how I was writing about it. I very much enjoyed our conversation and would not hesitate to recommend Macon Holt to anyone who was interested in a serious discussion of their work.

Franziska Hoppe, Writer/Artist (DK)

I reached out to Macon at a time when I was starting a new project, and we had a couple of conversations about some of my emerging thoughts. Even though I was not sure what I was looking to get out of them, Macon was able to respond to pretty much anything I’d throw at him with a kind of informed musing on my thoughts in the light of philosophical theories and fields of research I wasn’t so familiar with. I approached Macon for his expertise in music but found the conversations to be much more far-ranging and deep-plunging. I feel the thing that benefited me most in my conversations with Macon was getting a new, surprising, stimulating perspective on things, him creating new connections between thoughts and me, therefore coming out of the talk with freshly exciting ways of thinking about the stuff I was engulfed in.

Simone Mousset, Choreographer (LUX)

Often, when looking over material that Macon Holt has written for me in book reviews and exhibition texts, I find myself perplexed and baffled and ultimately teleported to a different and exciting new context for the works. He has written a great deal about my books, and these texts, as well as our conversations, have inspired a myriad of fruitful creative twists and turns. His writing is succinct, lucid and often witty with a strong personal flavour and voice. Macon Holt’s incisive, informed and witty scrutiny is sorely needed in the fog and pandemonium of our troubling time.

Joakim Drescher, Artist and illustrator (DK)

Macon Holt has an eye for details and processes in music and related theory. Engaging with my practice as a singer and composer, he has asked curious questions and saw perspectives in my work that I was only partly aware of myself. With an interesting view on the field, he amplifies and emphasises the music scene in Copenhagen and abroad.
